TU/e Innovation Lab is seeking a highly motivated professional to serve as a Technology Transfer Officer (full-time) within the domain of Physics with a cross-over to the Strategic Area Energy. For this purpose you are required to have a strong background within the field of physics. You will report to the head of the Business Development unit (IP, technology transfer, student entrepreneurship and business incubation) and your work consists of the following:

  1. Develop and maintain strong relationships with faculty inventors and prospective inventors as well as key contacts in industry;
  2. Develop and maintain strong relationships with faculty boards and boards of strategic areas of the TU/e.
  3. Take the lead on technology commercialization including sourcing of inventions, technology evaluation, formulation of business cases and development strategies and protection of intellectual property;
  4. Identify and qualify licensees; develop marketing plans and materials and contact potential licensees, draft business terms for license agreements and negotiate and execute license agreements;
  5. Identify opportunities for spin-off companies; develop business plans, draft business terms for shareholders agreements, build executive teams and attract financial means.
  6. Identify opportunities within industry for collaboration purposes between industry and the TU/e.

Sub 3 and 4: in close collaboration with the IP officer of TU/e Innovation Lab.

Sub 5: in close collaboration with the Business Incubation officer of TU/e Innovation Lab and the TUE Holding.


Candidates should have a thorough understanding of technology evaluation, commercial product development and IP protection strategies. Highly important is the ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with research staff and corporate representatives to build a pipeline of dis-closures and business opportunities. In short, TU/e Innovation Lab is seeking qualified candidates experienced in early-stage technology commercialization.

Minimum qualifications include a Master’s degree (professional experience and accomplishments may be considered instead of the advanced degree preference).

Other required qualifications include:

  • a minimum of five years relevant professional experience in business or academia involving development/commercialization of new technologies;
  • the ability to work both independently and in a team situation, in a highly complex setting and under pressure;
  • able and willing to take responsibility for commercial decisions and to independently represent the institute in contacts and negotiations with external organizations;
  • strong oral and written communication skills, particularly in English;
  • demonstrated exceptional interpersonal skills and good decision-making and negotiating skills;
  • working knowledge of contracting around intellectual property and of industry-standard licenses, including royalty rates and license structures;
  • working knowledge of emerging spin-off companies and all the contracting involved.

Conditions of employment

  • A full-time position (38 hrs per week), initially for the duration of 1 year, with the possibility to extend the contract;
  • A gross monthly salary between € 3,475 and € 4,757 based on a full-time appointment  (salary scale 11) and based on background and experience; plus yearly 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year allowance;
