In this position you are part of the Education and Student Affairs (ESA) team of the department of Mathematics & Computer Science. The ESA team is responsible for all support of education, both bachelor and master, of the department. Behind the scenes ESA provides a well balanced curriculum, study roster, evaluation and improvement of courses, organization and coordination of education and of course academic advisement.

The Academic Advisor reports to the Manager ESA of the department and will be working in a team of Academic Advisors, focussed on on the various programs within the department.

As an Academic Advisor to all master and pre-master programs in Computer Science, the following are among your tasks:

  • Checking study packages of students and advising students on drafting a request to the exam committee; 
  • Advising program directors and exam committee on the requests of students and processing the same in process and policy recommendations; 
  • Advising students on study management, study progress, planning and addressing study issues and personal issues and, whenever necessary, referring them to other professionals for student care;
  • Monitoring study progress of cohorts of master and pre-master students; 
  • Informing students on study related issues;
  • Advising pre-master students about the study progress requirement.


  • You have an academic level of working and thinking and a strong affiliation with technology. A STEM background is a plus;
  • You have good face-to-face and online communicative skills and are able to use the right conversation technique at the right time. Training in this field is a plus; 
  • You have developed a strong empathic ability and you show a natural seniority; 
  • You have excellent analytical abilities and organizational sensitivity;
  • You are a team player, you’re goal oriented and you can organize your own work;
  • You are fluent in Dutch and English (C1), both verbally and in writing.

This position is temporary for the duration of seven months; after this, provided positive results have been achieved, there are possibilities for extension within TU/e.
