Functieomschrijving

The department of IE&IS aims to be a leading school in understanding and designing impact of technology innovations for users, industry and society. The mission of IE&IS is to conduct scientific research and to find engineering solutions for new technology that makes business processes work, enable humans to improve their life and provide society with sustainable solutions.
At the heart of our academic philosophy is the synergy between research and teaching. Moreover, IE&IS is a department of moderate size in which scholars and students work on industrially and societally relevant problems from an engineering and social sciences perspective.
Research and education of IE&IS is focused on:

  • The analysis, (re-)design, and control of operational and innovation processes in organizations and the information systems needed for these processes.
  • Understanding and creating impact of technological innovations at the individual, organizational, and societal levels.

The Department of IE&IS has identified four cross-disciplinary research themes that are both scientifically challenging and societally relevant:

  • Logistics and its interfaces 
  • Sustainability
  • Value of big data 
  • Humans and Technology

These four research themes are aligned with the current Strategic Areas of the TU/e and with its strategic directions towards 2030. In line with the overall strategic goals of TU/e the department IE&IS aspires developing and intensifying the (inter-)national collaboration with industry through industrial partnerships. This stimulates excellence and offers opportunities for (inter-)national funding.  
As Research Program Director, you are expected to direct and support the scientific staff of IE&IS department in setting a strategic roadmap and subsequently in developing a few major research programs and themes based on the formulated roadmap. 


Key words in this role are: Strategic thinking, networking, connecting industry with the academic world, identifying opportunities, bringing parties together and building consortia.


Tasks and responsibilities

  • Act as a partner and strategic advisor for the theme leaders of the department; 
  • Formulate a departmental strategy (roadmap) that gives direction to future efforts in raising funding;
  • Make plans for acquisition and establish partnerships with national and international funding bodies, other departments, the TU/e Innovation Lab and the business community;
  • Set the right priorities, which is needed because of the spider in the web position of the Project Development Office (PDO).

Together with the Project Development Office team responsible for

  • The gathering of information from a wide range of stakeholders, such as internal TU/e entities, policy makers, the business community and funding institutions, in order to convert this information into the acquisition policy;
  • Managing acquisition processes of the own department together with other divisions of the TU/e;
  • Providing management information;
  • Ensure coherence and cooperation with other departments and projects.

Functie-eisen

  • An academic degree, preferably at PhD level, in a relevant area;
  • Knowledge or demonstrated affinity with technology as well as social sciences and humanities and also with industrial processes;
  • Experience with developing strategic, scientific roadmaps;
  • Having a warm network in industry, academic/scientific/research world and (inter-)national funding bodies or the ability to build such a network;
  • Familiar with the coordination of complex projects and processes between the university, (national and international) funding institutions and/or the business community;
  • Outstanding proficiency in English as well as in Dutch, both verbally and in writing;
  • Having experience with successfully raising funds (second and third flow projects) would be an advantage.
