Functieomschrijving

We are looking for a Postdoc to help research and develop a Blockchain platform for tracing parts and materials in a high-tech, complex equipment maintenance context. The position is available at the Information Systems group of Eindhoven University of Technology. The intended starting date is January 1, 2019, but starting earlier is open for discussion.

The research will be conducted in the context of the Dutch ‘Traceability’ project executed by TU/e in collaboration with IBM, Fokker Services and the Service Logistics Forum.

Project
Enabling companies to trace the parts and products that they buy and sell over multiple links in the supply chain has many benefits and applications. In regulated industries, such as aerospace, car manufacturing and healthcare systems manufacturing, it is even mandated by regulatory bodies that configuration, testing, and maintenance information can be traced. However, less regulated industries benefit from tracing parts and product information as well. For example, tracing parts and product information from suppliers enables companies to easily verify that parts or products are of sufficient quality and have been maintained well enough to be (re)used. Unfortunately, parts and product traces are in practice often lacking. This is especially the case when traceability information is needed from partners upstream or downstream in the supply chain.

Therefore, the goal of this project is to develop a digital platform for tracing parts and product information and for analyzing that information. The platform is highly innovative by using Blockchain technology to support traceability of parts and products multiple steps upstream and downstream in the supply chain.

The project will involve:

  • Identifying usage scenarios for tracing high-tech parts and materials in interviews and workshops with partners from high-tech practice.
  • Researching state-of-the-art platforms for registering traceability information, especially in a context where multiple parties can access and contribute to that information in a supply chain.
  • Developing a prototype Blockchain platform for registering traceability information and supporting the efficient analysis of that information.
  • Reporting on the research and development in scientific journals and trade journals, conferences, and workshops.

Tasks
The Postdoctoral researcher is expected to do research, develop prototype implementations and write research papers on the topic of the research project. The research is executed under the direct supervision of dr.ir. Remco Dijkman and co-supervised by dr.ir. Willem van Jaarsveld and prof.dr.ir. Paul Grefen. The work is performed in tight cooperation with the involved project partners.

Functie-eisen

Applicants should have completed (or be close to completion of) a PhD degree in information systems, computer science, or a related discipline. Fluency in English is required.

Arbeidsvoorwaarden

We offer:

  • A challenging job in a dynamic and ambitious university;
  • A Postdoc appointment for a period of 2 years with target start date January 2019;
  • a gross monthly salary between € 3.173,- and € 4.166,- based on a full-time appointment and depending on experience and knowledge; `
  • a yearly holiday allowance of 8% of the yearly salary;
  • a yearly end year allowance of 8.3% of the yearly salary;
  • A broad package of fringe benefits (including an excellent technical infrastructure, moving expenses, savings schemes, coverage of costs of publishing the dissertation and excellent sports facilities).
