Functieomschrijving

Are you a curious researcher who wants to have an impact on future high-tech motion systems? We invite you to apply for a post-doctoral research position in GaN power electronics. Within this position, the goal is to develop solutions to improve reliability of linear actuators by mitigating the negative effects of high switching speeds enabled by state-of-the-art wide-bandgap semiconductors, such as GaN HEMT components.

In this exciting interdisciplinary project you will explore the application of modern power electronics in a new domain: the interface between power electronic drives and electromechanical actuators. Your main task is to mitigate high transient electric fields that are the root cause for insulation deterioration in actuator windings. You develop beyond-state-of-the-art modulation strategies, topologies and magnetic components to reduce these fields. Your solutions will be implemented in practical prototypes. Additionally you collaborate with our interdisciplinary team of researchers active in electromechanics, material science, and mechanical engineering.

You have the opportunity to publish your work at international conferences and in open access journals, and to educate the next generation of engineers by supervising BSc and MSc students and supporting with our courses. This position offers ample opportunities for creative and innovative thinking as well as collaboration with top international research groups in this domain.

Functie-eisen

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic colleague with a PhD-degree in electrical engineering, with a strong affinity with power electronics, the realization thereof, state-of-the-art digital control, and mathematics. The candidate should have:

  • Enthusiasm and motivation to work on highly challenging research topics, and the talent to contribute to the progress of science and technology.
  • Experience in design and implementation of power electronics and analog circuits, experience with GaN devices is a plus.
  • Strong programming skills (MATLAB, and for example C and VHDL).
  • Strong analytical and research capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to independently organize his/her own work, to solve problems, to achieve the desired goals and to cooperate.
  • Work experience in an industrial environment is a plus.
  • Project management skills are a plus.
  • Ability to participate in the teaching process in BSc and MSc programs (both taught in English).
  • Good scientific writing and documentation skills.
  • Strong command of the English language, knowledge of Dutch language is a plus.

Arbeidsvoorwaarden

A meaningful job in a dynamic and ambitious university, in an interdisciplinary setting and within an international network. You will work on a beautiful, green campus within walking distance of the central train station. In addition, we offer you:

  • Full-time employment for 2 years.
  • Salary in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, scale 10 (min. €4,060 max. €5,331).
  • A year-end bonus of 8.3% and annual vacation pay of 8%.
  • High-quality training programs on general skills, didactics and topics related to research and valorization.
  • An excellent technical infrastructure, on-campus children's day care and sports facilities.
  • Partially paid parental leave and an allowance for commuting, working from home and internet costs.
  • A TU/e Postdoc Association that helps you to build a stronger and broader academic and personal network, and offers tailored support, training and workshops.
  • A Staff Immigration Team is available for international candidates, as are a tax compensation scheme (the 30% facility) and a compensation for moving expenses.
