The group sustainable process engineering (SPE) within the faculty of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering develops new processes based on improved mass and heat transfer rates for a more efficient, environmentally friendly, circular, and distributed production of chemicals, using new sources of raw materials and energy. Postdoc position on alkaline water electrolysis
The Postdoc position on alkaline water electrolysis is part of the ALKALICOAT project, which is a consortium of TU/e and Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ) and the industrial partners Agfa, Veco and Nobian. The topic of the ALKALICOAT project is the development of a catalyst coated membrane (CCM) for alkaline electrolysis as a replacement for the traditionally used catalyst coated substrate (CCS). CCM is expected to lead to a significant performance improvement for alkaline electrolysis, bringing its performance closer to PEM electrolysis without depending on any scarce materials. In this way the project will contribute to the important role green hydrogen will play in the future.
The Postdoc will work at both TU/e and FZJ, focusing om CCM development at FZJ and electrochemical performance validation at TU/e. Expectation is that the Postdoc will spend about 50% of his/her time at TU/e and the other 50% at FZJ. Also, there will be close contact with the industrial partners on diaphragm, binder and electrode development.
We are looking for a talented, motivated and enthusiastic Postdoc with a background in electrochemistry. We’re searching for an excellent candidate with proven capacities. Knowledge, experience and a strong affinity with electrochemistry, membrane science, material science and chemical reactor engineering are highly appreciated. Analytical skills, initiative and creativity are also appreciated. Moreover, excellent communication skills in English are vital.

The gross monthly salary in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement of the Dutch Universities (CAO NU), scale 10.4 (€3.353,-- gross per month with a fulltime appointment).
