Work environment

Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is one of Europe’s top technological universities, situated at the heart of a most innovative high-tech region. Thanks to a wealth of collaborations with industry and academic institutes, TU/e’s research has real-world impact. TU/e has around 3,000 employees and 2,300 PhD students (half of which international, representing about 70 nationalities).

Our university is at the heart of society: TU/e focuses in education and research on complex, societal challenges such as Energy, Health and Smart Mobility.

The General Affairs service is headed by the Secretary of the University and consists of the Executive Board Staff, the Executive Board Secretariat, and a number of units that are directly under the responsibility of the Executive Board, such as Operational Audit, Studium Generale and the Sports Center.

The Executive Board Staff is responsible, among other things, for supporting strategy and policy at the institutional level. This is organized in the thematic clusters Education and Research. In the Strategy 2030, the TU/e opts for a focus on a limited number of cross-disciplinary themes, giving shape to interdepartmental focus areas, making significant investments in these areas in the coming years and thereby creating a distinctive research profile.

In the role of policy advisor research you are part of the compact Research Cluster within the General Affairs service (4 FTE) and you work closely with your colleagues within the team, the Rector Magnificus and with colleagues within the departments. You also have regular contact with colleagues of other services and you participate in university meetings on relevant research topics.

The activities include:

  • Supporting researchers and management in shaping further research profiling and new research collaborations with our partners both locally and (inter)nationally;
  • The development and implementation of policy on topics such as strategic research funding and investments within the TUe;
  • Contribute to promoting the quality and impact of the research and its visibility;

  • You preferably have a Master's degree in a science or engineering discipline;
  • You have experience in conducting scientific research (e.g. as a PhD) and as such, you know how science works and what motivates scientists;
  • You have several years of experience in developing and implementing research policy in a higher education environment;
  • You have knowledge of current policy dossiers;
  • You have a relevant network and you make contacts easily;
  • You have excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English (and preferably also in Dutch);
  • You function well in a complex organization and take various interests into account;
  • You work independent and result-oriented and deal with changes professionally.

We offer a fulltime (1,0 fte) employment  position with a gross month salary in the range of  € 4.406,-  and € 5.656,- (scale 12) based on your education and experience. An appointment of 0,8 fte is also possible. Besides that, we offer an annual holiday allowance of 8%, an annual end of the year bonus of 8,3%, a total of 41 days of paid holiday leave and a broad package of fringe benefits (including an excellent technical infrastructure, savings schemes, child care and excellent sports facilities).
