About the Mathematics and Computer Science department

The department provides education at BSc, MSc, PhD and PDEng levels. Besides its own core tasks towards education and research, the department also provides service education for other TU/e departments. Research in the department concentrates on applied mathematics and the design and analysis of software systems. Knowledge valorization takes place through the Project Development Office (PDO). In the education and research areas the department closely collaborates with other universities and companies in both national and international partnerships.

The department has approximately 140 tenured staff members, 200 PhD students/postdocs/PDEng trainees and more than 1000 Bachelor/Master students. The department is leading the Data Science Center Eindhoven (DSC/e). In DSC/e 28 research groups join forces to create a world leading research and education program in data science.

The department of Mathematics & Computer Science is looking for a

       Policy Advisor Education, Research and Strategy 0,8 - 1,0 FTE (Temporary)

The tasks/responsibilities are a combination of the above mentioned elements and in close alignment with the other departmental team members.

Towards Education:

  • Advise the Departmental Board on educational issues with focus on mid- and long-term perspectives; 
  • Translate general university policy into departmental education policy; 
  • Support and advise the program directors; 
  • Advise and contribute to the annual strategic agenda on educational matters; 
  • Control over and responsible for the quality of the education cycle; 
  • Participate in and contribute to the regular educational accreditation committees;
  • Initiate and maintain educational related meetings in the department;
  • Maintain relevant university contacts and networks on an (inter) national level;
  • Provide support in organizing conferences, symposia, workshops etc.

Towards Research:

  • Advise the Departmental Board on research issues with focus on mid- and long-term perspectives; 
  • Coordinate and contribute to the research visitation committee evaluations;
  • Translate general university policy into departmental research policy; 
  • Secretary of the annual reports covering all (or substantial part) of the department’s research; 
  • Acquire information through periodic surveys about research programs and present these survey results as a concept study report; 
  • Collect scientific output from our staff members and make it visible, externally; 
  • Support in creating awareness for scientific output and stimulate this on a departmental level.

Towards Strategy:

  • Responsible for analysis, adjustment, development and evaluation with regard to policy matters; 
  • Coordination of the annual Strategic Agenda and the Strategic Meetings; 
  • Coordination of different task forces installed by the Departmental Board and responsible for reporting back to the Departmental Board.


We are looking for a candidate who fits the following requirements: 

  • An academic science background;
  • Highly developed analytical and conceptual skills; 
  • Team player; 
  • Proven initiator of projects and able to supervise and finish projects;
  • Capable of organizing and creating a broad basis for support in a convincing manner;
  • Able to translate various mindsets towards a consistent and uniform policy;
  • Good organizing and planning skills;
  • A businesslike, entrepreneurial attitude; 
  • Outstanding (English) writing and presentation skills;
  • Service- and result oriented.


We offer: 

It concerns a temporary position for one year (temporary replacement) with the possibility of extention for one additional year.

The salary will be related to relevant experience and knowledge (scale 10 or 11 in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities).
