Functieomschrijving

Photonics is widely regarded as the key enabling technology of the 21st century and its application and use in many scientific and industrial fields is accelerated though Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs), which combine many optical components into a miniaturized chip format. Similar as electronic ICs, PICs are revolutionizing areas such as healthcare, communication and sensing and have the potential to be disruptive to the whole society.

Photonic Integration
The openPICs project has the goal to advance photonic integration technology towards industrial use within an open innovation framework and we work together with key Dutch players in the photonics industry to coordinate access to this technology, enhance existing photonic platforms and provide research and development services for companies. The aim is to elevate state-of-the-art research results to higher technology readiness levels, thus bridging the gap between excellent scientific output and its industrial application and exploitation

Your Match
We are looking for a candidate to fill an engineering position for 1 year (prolongation is depending on personal performance and possibilities for new funding) within the openPICs project. The candidate will perform research and development tasks in close collaboration with industrial partners in the field of photonic integrated circuits and should have a master's/PhD degree in either applied physics, physics, electrical engineering, computer science or in an equivalent field. The candidate should have a strong background in semiconductor devices (preferably lasers) and general knowledge about semiconductor physics, modelling and component design. Experience with characterization equipment and/or cleanroom work is of advantage.

Your Responsibilities
You will be expected:                                                                            

- to work independently on creating models for photonic components and running simulations

- to draft designs for novel components according to given specifications.

- work and communicate efficiently in a team environment and proactively contribute with your own ideas and solutions

- create specifications and documentations for technical exchange with project partners

- coordinate between and communicate with project partners in an efficient way

Foreign experts may benefit from the 30% tax regulation in order to get a higher net salary, when granted.
