In this position you are part of the Education and Student Affairs (ESA) team of the department of Mathematics & Computer Science. The ESA team is responsible for all support of education, both bachelor and master, of the department. Behind the scenes ESA provides a well balanced curriculum, study roster, evaluation and improvement of courses, organization and coordination of education and of course academic advisement.

The Academic Advisor reports to the Manager ESA of the department and will be working in a team of Academic Advisors, focussed on the various programs within the department.

As a junior Academic Advisor for the three bachelor programs of the department, the following are among your tasks:

  • Advising students on study management, study progress, planning and addressing study issues and personal issues and, whenever necessary, referring them to other professionals for student care;
  • Monitoring study progress of cohorts of  bachelor students;
  • Informing students on study related issues;
  • Providing information about and supporting the process of study choice check and selective admission;
  • Advising on the binding study recommendation for first year students.


  • You have an academic level of working and thinking and a strong affiliation with technology. A STEM background is a plus;
  • You have good face-to-face and online communicative skills;
  • Some experience in guiding group conversations is a plus;
  • You have developed a strong empathic ability and you show a natural seniority;
  • You have excellent analytical abilities and organizational sensitivity;
  • You are a team player, you’re goal oriented and you can organize your own work;
  • You are fluent in Dutch and English (C1), both verbally and in writing.


  • A contract for one year (starting as of May 2019) with a possibility for extension when you perform well;
  • Salary based on scale 9 (according to the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities)
