Education and Student Affairs

The Education and Student Affairs (ESA) department aims to provide excellent service to lecturers, students and the administration. ESA is the central service point for lecturers and (prospective) students of Eindhoven University of Technology and provides services in the field of educational support, educational logistics, study skills, career guidance, use of ICT resources in education, professional skills and language training. In addition, ESA supports the Executive Board, the Deans of the Bachelor College and Graduate School, as well as the faculties in the areas of educational policy, laws and regulations, quality assurance, training and institutional accreditation, educational innovation and internationalization. ESA has organized this support into 4 departments, namely Central Student Administration (CSA), Teacher Support and Quality Assurance (TS&QA), Policy Advice and Projects (PA&P), and Student Facilities (SF).

Policy Advice and Projects.

The Data Coordinator will work in the Policy, Advice & Projects (PA&P) department. This department is primarily responsible for drafting tactical and operational educational policy and regulations, internationalization policy and generating and interpreting administrative information within the educational domain. In addition, it leads projects related to or resulting from the education policy, as well as their implementation and evaluation.

Within PA&P, a small but enthusiastic and knowledgeable team is responsible for administrative information (BI) in the field of education. The team already includes an information analyst and a business analyst who are responsible reports  that meet the needs of management as well as incidental reports. The team within PA&P feeds a wide range of clients such as the Executive Board, the Board of Education, managers within ESA, program directors and policy staff. It also works in close collaboration with the central Business Intelligence team. In short, a challenging and inspiring environment in which the importance of good quality data and excellent interpretation is high.

As data coordinator you are part of this team and you focus on ensuring that education data is properly managed and maintained. Doing so you help to build a foundation that enables the university to work more data-driven. You are the go-to person for colleagues that work with this data and have questions or support needs. As a Data Coordinator you receive (expert) support from the central data management team carrying out data management activities and implementing data management policy. However you are responsible for the planning, coordination and execution within the Education domain. You do so in close collaboration with all other Data Domain Coordinators.

As a data coordinator of education domain you combine knowledge of data management with knowledge of the processes, data and applications within the education domain. Furthermore, a large part of the work is related to privacy, GDPR, processing registry and data protection impact assessment on processes and systems used within the university. The data coordinator we are looking for is able to (pro)actively put himself in the shoes of a customer (question) through a good substantive knowledge of the education domain and in close cooperation with his / her colleagues within the BI cluster and other colleagues within and outside the department to translate to correct definitions and solutions, so that ultimately the management reports are of optimal quality. The data coordinator will deal with education data regarding Bachelor education, Master education, PhD students and PDEng trainees. For the PhD students a HoraFinita is being implemented within the university for which the data coordinator education will have this in portfolio. There is a close collaboration with the IT department (security) and data management (data management and privacy).

Hierarchically, the data coordinator is managed by the manager Policy, Advice & Projects.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Establishing agreements around the use of data, including data supply agreements (also in the context of GDPR), DPIA’s,
  • Establishing data definitions in coordination with own and other domains
  • Drawing up and checking data quality requirements in the broadest sense of the word
  • Monitoring the quality of data, reporting on this and proactively submitting improvement proposals; setting up an audit trail with regard to data quality
  • Pro-actively detecting, investigating and resolving problems with data in the education domain in cooperation with BI colleagues, users, management and functional administrators within the education domain
  • Pro-actively detect, investigate and resolve (complex) problems with (quality of) data across domains, together with data coordinators from other domains in the central Data Governance Team
  • Enforce agreements made on data management (also in the context of AVG)
  • Answering (or having answered) questions about data and data management within the domain
  • Mediating the provision of data from within the own domain
  • Supervise the work (employees involved) within the frameworks set from data management when setting up (data flows to and from) new applications; conclude new associated data supply agreements
  • Ensuring awareness of data management in the domain; a pioneering role that includes aspects of change management
  • Actively contribute to the further professionalization of Data Management within TU/e.


  • Minimum of HBO education (preferably technical or business administration). Working and thinking level: WO.
  • Broad knowledge of data management, in particular of the DAMA/DMBOK processes, is necessary.
  • Good knowledge of GDPR, experience in writing DPIA’s is a pré.
  • Competencies: cooperation, connecting, proactive, initiative, result-oriented, independence, organizational awareness and persuasiveness.
  • Good command of Dutch and English in combination with good oral and written communication skills.
  • Affinity with:
    - The higher education (HBO and University) domain
    - Data quality, AVG, privacy & security
  • Knowledge of database architecture is a plus.


We offer a 0.8 FTE appointment for the position. Depending on age and experience, the minimum salary is € 2.836 and the maximum salary € 5.211 gross per month (scale 10-11) for a full-time appointment.

We offer a temporary appointment for the duration of one year. In case of good performance and equal financial circumstances, the employment contract can be converted into a permanent contract.

In addition, we offer good fringe benefits, including a year-end bonus of 8.3%, vacation allowance of 8% and excellent sports facilities.

Depending on CV and work experience, an appointment through EUFLEX (secondment agency of TU/e) is among the possibilities.
