Our spirit of collaboration translates into an open culture and a global number 1 position in collaborating with advanced industries. Job Description

The Innovation, Technology Entrepreneurship & Marketing (ITEM) group currently entails around 25 faculty members, engaged in research and education in the area of new business and product development. In addition, a group of around 30 PhD students is affiliated to this group. ITEM’s research program focuses on understanding and improving new business development (NBD) and new product development (NPD) processes in new ventures as well as established high-tech companies. With the onset of open innovation and the rise of increasingly complex innovation ecosystems, new business and product development is no longer the exclusive playground of single firms. Instead, collaboration with external parties is required to accelerate new business and product development to keep pace with competitors. Moreover, technological breakthroughs in areas such as healthcare, ICT, and mobility imply that entrepreneurs have to redesign their business models to successfully market new products and services. The ITEM group currently has an opening for a tenure-track assistant professor that wants to contribute to its research program as well as teach at both the graduate and undergraduate level. The TU/e is situated in one of the leading high-tech regions of the world, which provides ample opportunities for excellent researchers in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship seeking to make a societal as well as academic impact.

  • PhD in innovation management, technology entrepreneurship, new product development or a related domain.
  • Ability to conduct high-quality research, demonstrated in a successfully completed PhD thesis and/or an initial set of publications arising from this thesis.
  • Passion for teaching, demonstrated in initial experiences or assistance in teaching.
  • Creative personality, dedicated to multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • Good communication and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in English language, both in writing and speaking.

  • A meaningful job in a dynamic and ambitious university, with the autonomy to develop your own research line and participate in the curriculum of the department.
  • A tenure track of five years with the prospect of becoming an Associate Professor. After a maximum of four years, the tenure decision will be made. If you have a more senior profile, you will receive a tailor-made career proposal.
  • As an Irène Curie Fellow, you are entitled to a substantial start-up package to kick-off your career.
  • You will have free access to high-quality training programs for academic leadership, the university teaching qualification program, research and valorization competences, and a dedicated mentoring program to help you get to know the university and the Dutch (research) environment.
  • Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities.
  • Additionally, an annual holiday allowance of 8% of the annual salary, plus a year-end allowance of 8.3% of the annual salary.
  • A broad package of fringe benefits, including an excellent technical infrastructure, moving expenses, and savings schemes.
  • Family-friendly initiatives are in place, such as the Dual Career Opportunity program to support accompanying partners, an international spouse program, and excellent on-campus children daycare and sports facilities.
