The Signal Processing Systems group at TU/e has a collaborative, entrepreneurial, and informal working atmosphere, with 16 full-time scientific staff members, 9 senior clinical and industrial experts who are appointed as part-time professor and around 100 PhD students and postdocs. Its strong international scientific reputation is evidenced by e.g. 7 Fellowships of IEEE, AES and OSA.
The position will be embedded in the Biomedical Diagnostics Lab (BM/d, www.bmdresearch.nl), part of the signal processing systems group. This lab has a long-standing international academic reputation in physiological monitoring, biomedical signal and image analysis and machine learning, and is a key player in the Eindhoven MedTech Innovation Center, a large-scale collaboration between TU/e, Philips Research and the semi-academic hospitals in the Eindhoven region geared to create a fast track to MedTech inovations. The candidate will also be embedded in this ecosystem.
To reinforce this vibrant community we are looking for a new tenure-track scientific staff member.
Electrophysiological measurements such as ECG, EEG and EMG are used in a variety of clinical applications, such as cardiac status monitoring in high-care hospital units, diagnosis and monitoring of epilepsy, and electrophysiological pregnancy monitoring. There is a strong need and potential to broaden the range of applications of these measurements by building on advances in pathophysiological mathematical modeling, microelectronic bioamplifier design, signal processing, and artificial intelligence. For example, advances in microelectronics foreshadow low-power contactless or semi-contactless measurements of large arrays of electrophysiological signals, potentially permitting reliable measurements in extramural settings, unobtrusive assessment of neonatal EEG, and high-resolution electrocardiographic mapping for atrial fibrillation treatment planning.
To materialize this potential we are looking for a candidate with a strong background in biomedical sensing, signal processing and machine learning, affinity and familiarity with mixed-signal microelectronics and the ability and interest to work closely with medical doctors in order to build up essential pathophysiological and sensor artifact knowledge, capture it in mathematical models, and exploit these models in hybrid model-based/data-driven signal analysis and interpretation approaches.
