Job description

Short Description

Are you eager to work on Disruption Management? Are you passionate about Network Theory, Empirical Methods and Operations Management? We are looking for a Post-Doc in the OPAC group at TU Eindhoven who will work on these topics.

Job Description

Firms face a crucial challenge today – to maintain resilience in its supply chain, i.e. the capability to ensure business continuity in presence of disruptive events. Firms recognize that they are a part of a larger (often global) supply network with many interdependencies. They need to implement strategies to mitigate disruption impact that must not only consider the focal firm, but also the entire network. Disruptions arise due to a variety of events such as supply-chain disturbances, geo-political events, earthquakes/tsunamis, trade wars and tariffs among many others. Your research will focus on a subset of these events.

The project will focus on two major challenges that you will tackle:

  1. Identify how disruptions propagate through supply networks and establish the magnitude of the disruptions’ impact on firms,
  2. Investigate whether there exists a disruption propagation asymmetry, i.e. differences in upstream vs downstream propagation, and
  3. Identify financial and operational decisions firms can take to recover from disruptions

You, as a successful applicant, will perform the research project outlined above in an international research team. You will report research findings at international conferences and workshops, and in high-quality scientific journals.  You will contribute to the existing Operations Management research conducted in the OPAC group and push the state-of-art in current Disruption Management practices.

The project will be supervised by Dr. Shaunak Dabadghao. You will be based in the Operations Planning Accounting and Control group in the faculty of Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences. The Post-doc position is funded by TKI Dinalog (Dutch Institute for Advanced Logistics) within the project “Evidence-based disruption management”. Therefore, the collaboration will also involve researchers and companies involved in the project.
