Job description

Short Description

Are you eager to work with data-driven process analysis techniques to improve supply chain network resilience? Are passionate about techniques like Process Mining, Optimization Algorithms, Supply Chain Network Management? We are looking for a Post-doc in Information Systems/Business Intelligence with a focus on those topics.

Job Description

A crucial challenge for nowadays supply chain networks is represented by their resilience, intended as the capability of ensuring business continuity in presence of disruptive events. Given the high interdependencies among nodes within a network, strategies to mitigate disruption impact must consider not only a single firm, but the entire network. However, the development of strategies to enhance network resilience faces significant difficulties. Among them, a key factor often highlighted in literature is the lack of transparency within the chain. This often results in a lot of uncertainty for the companies when it comes to react to disruptions.

The Post-doc project will focus on these challenging, with the goal of developing novel methodologies and tools to a) improve network transparency, and b) supporting decisions via both financial and operational actions to recover from occurred disruptions. Among the others, process mining techniques will be employed to develop novel tools that allow companies to properly visualize their supply-chain network, allowing them to investigate how their operational processes are interconnected with their partners in the supply chain. The insights gathered by the network visualization will hence be used in the development of an early-warning system, aimed to timely notify companies when a disruption in the network is likely to impact their processes, as well as to support them in reacting to the detected disruptions.

You, as a successful applicant, will perform the research project outlined above in an international research team. You will report research findings at international conferences and workshops, and in high-quality scientific journals.

The project will be supervised by Dr. Laura Genga and Remco Dijkman. You will be based in the Information Systems group in the faculty of Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences. The Post-doc position is funded by TKI Dinalog (Dutch Institute for Advanced Logistics) within the project “Evidence-based disruption management”. Therefore, the collaboration will also involve researchers and companies involved in the project.
