Job description

Eindhoven University of Technology is recruiting a postdoc who will study and engineer the interface between biomaterials and cells, in order to optimize the performance of shunts which are used to treat glaucoma patients. The successful candidate is equally excited about biomaterials engineering and cell biology; she/he is passionate about biomedical engineering and has a desire to bring ideas towards clinical translation. The research performed by the candidate is an essential link between biomaterial engineering and clinical application of biomaterials in regenerative medicine and is part of an interndisciplinary research project to bring a new generation of glaucoma shunts to the clinic.

The research will be conducted within the BioInterface Science (BIS) group in the Department of Biomedical Engineering under the supervision of prof.dr. Jan de Boer (www.jandeboerlab.com). Research at BiS is dedicated to understanding and applying basic cell biological principles at the biointerfaces, especially for regenerative medicine. The research program is characterized by a holistic approach to both discovery and application, aiming at combining high throughput technologies, computational modeling, and experimental biology to streamline the wealth of biological knowledge to real clinical applications.

Biomedical Engineering

The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) offers a research-driven BME Bachelor program and Masters in Biomedical Engineering and Medical Engineering in its Graduate Program. Its research areas range from Molecular Bioengineering and Imaging, Biomechanics and Tissue Engineering to Biomedical Imaging and Modelling. The department has more than 800 students and up to 200 tenured and non-tenured employees.

Job description

We are recruiting a postdoc for a period of two years to help design and produce a new generation of micro-patterned glaucoma shunts. The micropatterns are selected based on ongoing high throughput screens on our TopoChip platform, and should optimize the integration between the shunt biomaterial surface and the surrounding tissue. The candidate will bring her/his expertise in microfabrication to overcome the challenges to produce the shunts in the Microfab lab at TU/e and may also use the TU/e Nanolab facilities to achieve it.

Job requirements
