Job description

Academic freedom and open science form the bedrock of our university. At the same time, we are aware that, in the ever-changing global political climate, risks are associated with international collaboration. TU/e’s principle is that we share knowledge where possible and protect it where necessary. This balance is the domain of Knowledge Security, which encompasses (1) preventing unwanted knowledge transfer with negative consequences for national security and Dutch innovation power, (2) the covert influence of higher education by state actors, which can lead to forms of (self)censorship and infringement of academic freedom, and (3) ethical issues that may be associated with cooperation with countries where fundamental rights are not respected.

The Knowledge security manager will report to director General Affairs. The Knowledge security manager will set up and professionalize a one-stop-shop for staff and students. You work on the implementation of the National Knowledge Safety Guideline and take care of the further development, implementation, and monitoring of TU/e’s Knowledge Security policy.

Other duties include:

  • Setting up an efficient and effective organization for the topic of Knowledge Security that encompasses the whole TU/e organization (from strategy to operations).
  • Building the capability of new and existing services to analyze potential Knowledge Security questions, events and develop KPIs and metrics.
  • Presenting structured updates to the Executive Board, including but not limited to, summarizing activities related to program timeline and deliverables.
  • Developing, promoting, and aligning the Knowledge Security program across all TU/e stakeholders.
  • Functioning as the primary contact person for external parties with requests related to Knowledge Security.
  • Representing the TU/e position on Knowledge Security on external platforms, such as the UNL working group.
  • Creating awareness among senior management, staff and students about Knowledge Security topics. Communicating complex knowledge security issues in a way that is understandable to a variety of audiences across the university.

Job requirements

  • Minimum of two years relevant experience within Knowledge Security and at least five years of experience in leading large and complex projects, preferably in an academic environment.
  • You have proven experience in advising, implementing, and coordinating processes and projects.
  • You are able to think strategically and analytically, but also know how to translate this into concrete actions where you know how to get the organization moving.
  • You show initiative and entrepreneurship and are creative. Organizational and managerial sensitivity comes naturally to you.
  • You have an attitude of integrity and are able to handle confidential information.
  • You have an excellent command of the Dutch and English (C1 level) language in word and writing.

If you are worried that you do not meet all the requirements, or that you might be overqualified for the job, but the job interests you, be sure to respond, we will be happy to look at your profile.
