Job description

Are you an IT professional who wants to rise above yourself, in your profession and as a person? Do you want to be challenged every day? At the TU/e, scientists and students continuously create the unthinkable. The strength of the IT landscape is their key to success and, hence, so are you. These creative minds expect you to offer them a solution for tomorrow that doesn’t exist today. Together we are building the high performance backbone that this epicenter of science and technology demands.

High-Performance Computing and High-Performance Data Analytics (HPC-HPDA) have become a key enabler for excellent science. Faster and more calculations enable better research and faster scientific publications. Traditional examples of HPC are found in scientific modelling and simulation, e.g. designing modern city infrastructure, developing innovative polymers or simulating fluid flows. More recently, application of Artificial Intelligence, especially Deep Learning algorithms, has opened a whole new field, HPDA. Workflows that unify modern data analytics and traditional modeling/simulation will make HPC-HPDA more essential and ubiquitous than ever. Do you want to be part of this?

To make it easy and attractive for TU/e scientists to ultimately use Dutch and European supercomputing facilities, such as Cartesius and EuroHPC, TU/e has started to implement an “HPC-HPDA ecosystem”. The ecosystem will consist of:

  • A balanced, cascaded environment of hardware, software, data, support and governance, from workstation to supercomputer, and
  • A vivid user community of researchers, educators and students supported by a mixed group of scientific and support experts.

The HPC-HPDA Lead is the central focal point of TU/e in the field of HPC-HPDA. You will lead the team for the development, implementation, operation and expansion of the TU/e HPC-HPDA ecosystem.

Job requirements

Who are you?

  • Masters or higher educational level with relevant HPC or HPDA experience;
  • Proven, hands-on experience in developing, implementing and operating an HPC-HPDA environment;
  • Act as the team leader of the HPC-HPDA Core Team of scientific and support experts;
  • Experienced in community management: drive and ability to engage existing and potential HPC- HPDA users into a vivid HPC-HPDA user community;
  • Excellent analytical skills and able to make decisions.
  • Good leadership and people skills, and great ability to realize agreement and action of groups without a formal hierarchical position;

Conditions of employment

What we offer:

  • A responsible job where you are part of the smooth operation of the HPC-HPDA environment and for the consisting of hardware, software, data, support and governance, and actively participate;
  • The possibility to engage in the HPC-HPDA collaboration with internal clients and the Brainport industry partners, institutions linked to TU/e, other Dutch universities, and national facilities esp. SURFsara;
  • Working at an inspiring campus where we work for the benefit of humanity;
  • Plenty of room for personal development and growth;
  • The salary is in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement of the Dutch Universities and depending on education and work experience, salary scale 11 with a minimum € 3.637,= and maximum of scale 12 € 5.656,= (CAO-NU)
  • An attractive package of fringe benefits, including excellent work facilities, extra holiday allowance 8% in May, end-of-year bonus of 8.3% in December and 41 holidays per year.
  • You’re given the freedom and autonomy to live out your vision and to build a brighter tomorrow for us
