Job description

Are you thrilled at the prospect of designing and developing cutting-edge information systems that support urban renaturing to foster urban resilience? Are you captivated by the potential of digital technologies to transform the people-nature relationship within our cities? Then this could be the opportunity you've been waiting for!

Job Description

Successful uptake and implementation of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) in cities require multidisciplinary stakeholder participation. This involves integrating expert knowledge from various domains with local knowledge (citizen science) to foster collaboration among urban stakeholders and adopt a holistic perspective in urban NBS planning. This project aims to explore how information systems can support the NBS collaborative planning and enable cities to incorporate the more-than-human perspective in the planning process.

Job responsibilities

  • Investigate how information systems can support the NBS collaborative planning, and identify the barriers, enablers, and conditions for the successful adoption of information systems in NBS planning.
  • Design and develop an integrative (spatial) planning support system that combines various knowledge sources, enabling stakeholders to analyze problem areas, co-create scenarios, and evaluate the socio-ecological impacts of the scenarios.
  • Design and develop a gamified platform that facilitates the adoption of the decision support system in the NBS collaborative planning process.
  • Publishing articles in high-quality scientific journals.
  • Coordination of research activities.
  • You will be contributing to the City Information Modelling research theme at the chair of Information Systems in the Built Environment (ISBE).

Job requirements

  • A master’s degree (or an equivalent university degree) in Earth or Environmental Sciences, Architecture, Planning, Engineering, or related fields with demonstrable experience in spatial analysis and numerical modelling of the urban environments.
  • A research-oriented attitude.
  • Solid programming knowledge (Python and/or C#, and preferably web development languages).
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team and interested in collaborating with industrial partners.
  • Motivated to develop your teaching skills and coach students.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English (C1 level).
  • A positive attitude and good communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a team and on own initiative.

Conditions of employment

A meaningful job in a dynamic and ambitious university, in an interdisciplinary setting and within an international network. You will work on a beautiful, green campus within walking distance of the central train station. In addition, we offer you:

  • Full-time employment for four years, with an intermediate evaluation (go/no-go) after nine months. You will spend 10% of your employment on teaching tasks.
  • Salary and benefits (such as a pension scheme, paid pregnancy and maternity leave, partially paid parental leave) in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, scale P (min. € 2.872 max. € 3.670).
  • A year-end bonus of 8.3% and annual vacation pay of 8%.
  • High-quality training programs and other support to grow into a self-aware, autonomous scientific researcher. At TU/e we challenge you to take charge of your own learning process.
  • An excellent technical infrastructure, on-campus children's day care and sports facilities.
  • An allowance for commuting, working from home and internet costs.
  • A Staff Immigration Team and a tax compensation scheme (the 30% facility) for international candidates.
