Job description

Academic freedom and open science form the bedrock of our university. At the same time, we are aware that, in the ever-changing global political climate, risks are associated with international collaboration. TU/e’s principle is that we share knowledge where possible and protect it where necessary. This balance is the domain of Knowledge Security, which encompasses (1) preventing unwanted knowledge transfer with negative consequences for national security and Dutch innovation power, (2) the covert influence of higher education by state actors, which can lead to forms of (self)censorship and infringement of academic freedom, and (3) ethical issues that may be associated with cooperation with countries where fundamental rights are not respected.

The Policy Advisor Knowledge Security works in close cooperation with the Knowledge Security Manager and reports to director General Affairs. Set up and professionalize a one-stop-shop for staff and students. You work on the implementation of the National Knowledge Safety Guideline and take care of the further development, implementation and monitoring of TU/e’s Knowledge Security policy.

Other duties include:

  • You consult with colleagues, other universities and ministries on information and policy needs and write policy proposals as a result. You also conduct internal research based on supplied data or through discussions with experts, in order to motivate and substantiate policy choices.
  • You assess new contracts and collaborations on Knowledge Security aspects (e.g. research or teaching collaborations, joint doctorates).
  • You advise the departments on Knowledge Security aspects during recruitment procedures.
  • You create awareness among staff and students about Knowledge Security topics.

Job requirements

  • Academic working and thinking level, with a completed education and/or affinity in the field of internationalization, political science, criminology, security policy or risk management.
  • You have an affinity with the subject of knowledge security and are aware of national developments with regard to knowledge security.
  • You have demonstrable experience in advising on cases, preferably in an academic environment.
  • You have basic knowledge of relevant legislation and compliance aspects.
  • You show initiative and entrepreneurship and are creative. Organizational and managerial sensitivity comes naturally to you.
  • You have an attitude of integrity and are able to handle confidential information.
  • You have an excellent command of the Dutch and English (C1 level) language in word and writing.

If you are concerned that you don’t meet all the requirements sufficiently, or that you might be overqualified, but the job does excite you, then be sure to respond, we would love to look at your profile.

Conditions of employment

A super-exciting position within an international yet warm and friendly university. You are right in the middle of the staff and students, on a green campus within walking distance of the central train station. Besides beautiful architecture, you will find varied workplaces and excellent sports facilities. The function also offers a high degree of diversity and independence within the team. This vacancy concerns a full-time position (with an availability of at least 32 hours).

We also offer you:

  • A monthly salary of minimum € 3.345 to maximum € 5.278,- for full-time employment, depending on your knowledge and experience (scale 10 collective labor agreement for Dutch Universities).
  • In addition to vacation pay, a structural end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.
  • A favorable arrangement for more holidays or a sabbatical.
  • A selection model for additional fringe benefits.
