Job description

Are you an excellent quantitative researcher in Operations Management? Are you interested in Supply Chain Management, Maintenance Optimization, and/or Manufacturing Systems? Do you have the passion to teach a range of courses that prepare students for a successful career? Do you like to work with companies to see your research applied?

Job Description

Due to students’ strong interest in the programs that we offer and companies’ strong interest in the research that we perform, we are looking for two new colleagues in Operations Management with a focus on Supply Chain Management, Maintenance Optimization, or Manufacturing Systems.

Today, we see many sectors being transformed by enormous leaps in digital, automation and robotic technologies. In an increasingly fast, demanding and competitive world with shrinking resources, smart control of operational processes brings increased output at improved quality, using the same - or even fewer – resources, and leads to less waste, as such contributing to a more sustainable world. To further aid in this transition, we are looking for two Assistant Professors for the Operations, Planning, Accounting and Control (OPAC) group. We are looking for one Assistant Professor with a focus on Supply Chain Management and one Assistant Professor with a focus on Maintenance Optimization and/or Manufacturing Systems Design.

The OPAC group is part of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e)’s Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences Department, which has a worldwide reputation for performing highly impactful research in Operations Management. The OPAC group helps stakeholders across sectors to make smart, informed decisions, thereby contributing to more efficiency, enhanced (environmental) sustainability, better use of resources and reduced costs.  The research of the group deals with the control of operational processes, which can be related to supply chains, manufacturing systems, high-tech equipment, distribution, transportation, warehousing, retail, and service processes such as equipment maintenance.

You will initiate, perform, and supervise high-quality research that can be published in good and top journals in the field of operations management. You will apply techniques from a range of methodological and modelling approaches including operations research and machine learning. You are expected to develop a multi-disciplinary research portfolio that has strong emphasis on academic excellence and practical applicability and impact. For that, it is also important to develop a network in industry and obtain funding from or in collaboration with industry.

Job requirements

  • Motivated researcher, with a PhD in the field of operations management, operations research, econometrics, or a comparable domain.
  • Ability to conduct high quality academic research, reflected in demonstratable outputs.
  • Motivated to teach, contribute to teaching processes, and to develop excellent teaching skills.
  • Strong cooperation skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills, including coaching and mentoring of students and staff.
  • Excellent (written and verbal) proficiency in English.

Conditions of employment

A meaningful job in a dynamic and ambitious university, in an interdisciplinary setting and within an international network. You will work on a beautiful, green campus within walking distance of the central train station. In addition, we offer you:

  • An 18-month contract as Assistant Professor which can become permanent after 12 months on the same employment level upon successful evaluation. A direct permanent contract may be possible if you have at least two years of relevant work experience in teaching and research.
  • The opportunity to focus your career on education, research or impact. You can develop your personal ambitions and objections within the strategic objectives of the university.
  • Salary in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
  • A year-end bonus of 8.3% and annual vacation pay of 8%.
  • A dedicated mentoring program to help you get to know the university and the Dutch (research) environment.
  • High-quality training programs for academic leadership and teaching.
  • An excellent technical infrastructure, on-campus children's day care and sports facilities.
  • Partially paid parental leave and an allowance for commuting, working from home and internet costs.
  • A Staff Immigration Team is available for international candidates, as are a tax compensation scheme (the 30% facility) and partner career support.
