The Department of the Built Environment has programs in architectural design, building and planning, construction management, civil engineering, and building services. It also performs research in the diverse field of architecture and related design disciplines.
The department’s guiding principle is that design and technology should be masterfully integrated in creating the built environment. The educational approach is therefore based on the notion of design founded on scientific research and the abundant potential afforded by information technology. The department feels a sense of responsibility for coming up with innovative strategies for addressing the social issues of today and tomorrow.
TU/e is a leading international university of technology specializing in Engineering Science & Technology. Through excellent teaching and research we contribute to progress in the technical sciences, to the development of technological innovations, and as a result to the growth of prosperity and welfare in the region and beyond. TU/e maintains close links with industry, healthcare and the building and logistics sectors.
Our society faces numerous challenges in the field of healthcare. These include an ageing population, a growing number of people with lifestyle related diseases like heart diseases and diabetes and other chronic diseases, as well as rapidly rising staff shortages. These challenges require new products and services in the healthcare industry and technology plays crucial role in addressing those challenges. At Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), about 300 researchers spread over 9 departments are actively involved in health-technology. Our goals are early and precise diagnosis, precise and efficient treatments, healthcare at home and keeping people healthy. To obtain these goals, we work in close collaboration with our partners in healthcare, healthtech, health enablers and health beneficiaries.
