Postdoc / Researcher Graphene Inks
The project focuses on the liquid phase processing of graphite to graphene to conductive inks. More specifically, starting from graphite, via intercalation and thermal expansion, graphene dispersions containing polymeric stabilizers in industrially relevant solvents are prepared that can be utilized in printed electronics, flexible PV or energy storage. The goals of these studies are to: 1) enable screen printing at high definition to realize antennae’s and RF passive devices; 2) maximize the conductivity of deposited structures for PV applications; 3) realize flexible and stretchable conductors and sensors for printed electronics; and 4) tune porosity and conductivity of deposited structures / coatings for energy storage applications.
The project will be carried out at TU Eindhoven within the framework of the Graphene Flagship, a European initiative that combines the expertise of more than 150 institutions on graphene and related 2D materials. The initiative aims at utilizing the exceptional properties of graphene such as excellent electrical conductivity, environmental stability and mechanical strength from the realm of academic laboratories into European society in the space of 10 years, thus generating economic growth, new jobs and new opportunities.
The Laboratory of Materials and Interface Chemistry (SMG) of Eindhoven University of Technology, Department of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry, is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated researcher for a 1 year project. The research of our group focusses on the synthesis and characterization of bio-inspired and multiscale materials. By combining synthesis and characterization we aim at reaching a fundamental understanding of the chemical and physical processes involved in the assembly of multiscale structures. In our studies we combine the use of both bottom-up and top-down approaches to generate hybrid materials from polymeric, mineral and carbon based building blocks.
We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic, academically qualified chemist or material scientist with a strong background in physical chemistry, rheology or colloidal dispersions/coatings/inks. The candidates should have affinity to multi-disciplinary and multi-analytical
problems and the ability to work in a team with chemists and physicists. Given the scope of the project interest in 2D materials and experience with conductive composites is a must. Expertise in rheological characterization, printing and subsequent electrical and structural characterization of deposited layers is a strong plus. Analytical abilities, independent attitude, initiative, excellent communicative skills and proficiency in the English language are prerequisites.

The gross monthly salary in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement of the Dutch Universities (CAO NU), starts at € 3.068,- gross per month, depending on your experience and qualification.
